On Wednesday, 21 March, His Excellency Most Reverend Luis Ladaria Ferrer, SJ, Secretary for the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith, celebrated Mass for the Lay Centre and joined the community for dinner following Mass. After dinner, the students introduced themselves and shared about their particular field of study. His Excellency shared his own appreciation for philosophical and theological education, having taught several years at the Pontifical Gregorian University before becoming Secretary for the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith. He advised the Lay Centre students to remember the famous adage that the study of the faith is best done “on one’s knees,” adding that this means that theology is not only an intellectual exercise, but is a discipline also of the heart, which should lead one toward service of God and neighbor.
