Prof. Stephan Kampowski, associate professor of philosophical anthropology at the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family and a former Lay Centre resident, presented his new book “The Gospel of the Family” yesterday during our community evening. The book is co-authored by Fr. Juan José Pérez-Soba, a professor of pastoral theology and the director of international research in moral theology at the Pontifical John Paul II Institute in Rome.
The book’s subtitle speaks for itself: “Going Beyond Cardinal Kasper’s Proposal in the Debate on Marriage, Civil Re-Marriage and Communion in the Church”. The book, whose foreword was written by Cardinal George Pell, is a strong contribution to the debate on the pros and cons of allowing Communion for re-married Catholics–a debate which was lively in the context of the Extraordinary Synod of Bishops on Marriage and the Family.
Msgr. José Granados, vice-president of the Pontifical John Paul II Institute, also joined us for dinner. He celebrated Mass with our community and, together with Prof. Kampowski, answered some insightful questions from our residents.
