Already a good friend of The Lay Centre, English Benedictine Abbot Edmund Power presided the Mass with our residents yesterday. He is the spiritual father of the monastic community at the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, which is the second-largest basilica in Rome, after Saint Peter’s. Canadian Fr. Anthony Nguyen, also a Benedictine but from the monastery at the Basilica of Saint Anselm, concelebrated.
Both of them joined us for supper, which was marked by a regretful yet joyful farewell to Ruth Frampton from England, who lived with us for six weeks.
The evening ended with a very kind invitation from Abbot Power: The Lay Centre residents should visit St. Paul Outside the Walls on a Saturday morning, when he could give us a special guided tour. Obviously, an invitation we cannot refuse!
