Alex Neroth van Vogelpoel married Hannah Joy Friedman at Patronage of the Mother of God Byzantine Catholic Church in Halethorpe, Md., close to Baltimore, Jan. 2.

The wedding offered a beautiful and sincere Christian witness. Alex, of the Eastern Catholic Syro-Malabar Church, and Hannah, of the Anglican Church, were married in a Ruthenian Catholic church by a Ukrainian Catholic priest, Fr. Stephen Wojcichowsky, who had been Alex’s spiritual director during his undergraduate studies in Ottawa, Canada.

Father Andrew Summerson, a Ruthenian-rite priest with whom Alex had studied in Rome, concelebrated.

The bride and groom welcomed guests from India, England, Austria, Canada and across the United States.

After the wedding ceremony, the guests enjoyed a buffet lunch reception in the parish hall, followed by dancing.

Alex was a resident at The Lay Centre, from 2011 to 2014, while completing his licentiate at the Pontifical Oriental Institute. He is currently a doctoral candidate at University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. Hannah is also a doctoral candidate at Johns Hopkins University.

The Lay Centre joins Alex and Hannah’s family and friends in congratulating them and in wishing them much health and happiness for many years.
